Jeremy Hunt, MP for South West Surrey, recently visited HasleWorks – a new co-working space in Haslemere – to meet the team of local residents who have devised the initiative in response to a growing need for workspace close to home and to encourage business for local shops and cafes by enabling more people to work in the town centre.
Jeremy was taken on a tour of the newly refurbished building, located at 2 – 4 Petworth Road, that has been adapted to enable at least thirty people at any one time to work together comfortably and efficiently. They have the choice of working at large open tables or in quieter zones and have access to acoustic phone booths for privacy and to meeting rooms as well as a comfortable seating area. A programme of events is planned with informal drinks and local speakers, drawing on the wealth of experience in the area, providing networking opportunities for collaboration between members.
In addition to offering flexible workspace close to home, the central location of HasleWorks will draw customers to Haslemere’s shops and cafes, helping to boost the local economy. Jeremy Hunt, who in September 2020 launched the South West Surrey Bounceback campaign to help local businesses, charities and other organisations get back on their feet after the pandemic, welcomed the initiative. He said:
“To have such a facility in Haslemere is a coup for the town and for the many business people who live and work in the area. As we finally come out of this awful pandemic, we will be looking for more flexibility when it comes to working and having meetings and I hope HasleWorks can be at the centre of this within the town. We need to support our High Street and local businesses more than ever and this seems like an excellent opportunity for Haslemere.”
